1928 Gibson L-1 Vintage 00 Mahogany/Spruce
The L-1 one is very similar to the L-00 but has a bound back. It’s hard to identify this one but it appears be an L-1 from 1920s. We refurbished it into a great player instrument that is solid and ready for serious playing time. We had master luthier Bill Tippin repair cracks, reset and refret the neck and install Waverly tuners. Now this is a real player with that incredible vintage tone but totally reliable. This guitar is perfect for the blues or rag player looking for the real McCoy without any of the vintage hassles.

This is another beauty that we discovered at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival. Like the ladder braced guitar we recently had, this one has vintage styling but crafted here from Indian Rosewood and Sitka Spruce and X-Braced for more of that classic prewar tone. John How’s Grand Concert is sized like a 000 guitar. We love the simple styling, the blank ebony headstock bound in Ivoroid to match the neck and body, the pyramid bridge and rope style trim. All classic details appropriate for a guitar with a voice that is clear and strong with snappy bass and powerful focus. This is a superb guitar for blues, rags, traditional music and much more.

Darren built this wonderful SJ from rich Koa and Redwood. It’s tone is rich and lush with the buttery redwood voice. The SJ body makes it loud and full sounding and we love the curves. The Koa adds good punch and clarity as well. During construction one hairline crack appeared in the back, which he of course fixed, so Darren is allowing us to offering this guitar at a reduced price, but still with full warranty. Don’t pass up this chance for a great guitar under $2000.

If you’ve played or heard a Sobell guitar built during the 1990s or early part of this century chances are you’ve heard Nigel Forster’s work. For 15 years he was the sole apprentice in Stefan Sobell’s shop in England. If you’ve heard Martin Simpson’s music than you know that Sobell sound. Nigel’s guitars have that essence but he is making refinements and finding his very own voice that is equally unique and in some ways more american. This Model C is very special with big, bold bass notes and sweet rosewood trebles.
