Here we have Dan Bresnan OM in Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack (Red) Spruce. The combination of Brazilian and Red spruce is a legendary wood pairing known for power and beauty of tone, and this Bresnan has those qualities in spades. With articulate trebles and full, round basses it’s hard to put this guitar down. Playability is spot on, fretting is a dream and requires no force, while the string spacing at the bridge feels perfectly natural. The Craftsmanship is superb, this guitar is stunning.

We get really get excited around the shop when we get a Matsuda in. Known for his incredible crafstmanship and sense of lines in an instrument, Michi’s style is one that has truly changed the world of high end lutherie. And while his work is frequently imitated, it is never outdone.

No expense was spared on the wood selection here, as the Waterfall Figured Brazilian Rosewood back, sides, fingerboard and bridge laps up against the pristine, sandy, Curly Italian Spruce top. Full and expressive, responding to even the lightest touch, the voice of this guitar is powerful and whole, yet round and controlled. It inspires the confidence to stretch out and play with more expression, more vigor, more life.

The tasteful florentine cutaway, a hallmark of Michihiro’s legendary wood bending skills, provides full access right up to the soundhole itself. World renowned inlay artist Larry Robinson joined in on this showpiece, contributing the four feathers cascading down the wavy Brazilian fingerboard and adding a special touch to an already incredible instrument. Call or write to us today – we can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

There’s a reason why legendary artists Andy McKee, Tony McManus, Pierre Bensusan and fingerstylists everywhere are going wild over Greenfield’s work: Michael is building some of the most responsive and tonally dynamic guitars out there. From fingerpicking to flatpicking this Greenfield G1 handles it with ease. All of Michae’ls skills are on display with this fully custom guitar. The fit and finish are perfect, but the tone is where the real magic is. The pairing of Brazilian Rosewood and Alpine Spruce enable trebles that are round and awe inspiring, with basses that are deep and dark, reminiscent of a grand piano. Playability is excellent, the neck is full and slightly larger than average, but fits so nicely in the hand you’ll be wondering why you’d play anything else. This G1 is one of a kind, it wont hang around long!

The R Taylor line of guitars are made on the same campus as the standard Taylor guitar line, the difference being that the R. Taylor’s are made by a group of five Luthiers. They are made in much smaller numbers and much more time is spent in the craftsmanship. This style 2 made with Indian Rosewood and Cedar is a sweat heart, the tone is warm and comforting, basses rumble down low and trebles cut through and make themselves known. R. Taylor has made a great guitar here, and will make someone very happy!

It is hard to think of a more classy guitar than this Fay OM. Every detail in the design is well thought out, and perfectly done. In style we are reminded of the classical guitar. In tone however, its completely modern and unique, every string has its own gorgeous singing quality. The Brazilian and Adirondack Spruce is a time honored combination and brings sweetnes and clarity to the tonal pallete. This Fay really is something special.

Here we have a Charis SJ cutaway in Western Red Cedar and Brazilian Rosewood. Bill Wise is the Luthier behind Charis guitars, and he is a master of achieving a rich and consistent consistent tone. This SJ has a voice that says nothing but praise for Bills voicing skills. Each string is crisp and articulate making this guitar a strong instrument for melodies and difficult fingerstyle solos. We have had many Charis guitars come and go through the Dream Guitars shop, but this one has to be one of the most ornately appointed Charis’s we have seen yet, it is jaw dropping!

This Randy Wood 0000 is wonderfully unique from the tone to the appointments; all speak to a rockin’ vintage vibe. The Koa back and sides are evenly colored and figured in two directions, and the Adirondack Spruce top is tight grained and aged to a warm, amber color. Tonally, this guitar has all the great “bark” of Mahogany, but with clarity and wholeness of sound thanks to twenty years of maturity and Randy’s decades of experience working as a luthier and repair artist working for some of the biggest names in Nashville, Tennessee.

Randy was ahead of his time in returning to the traditional roots of the craft by constructing this guitar entirely with hide glue. Playability is top notch for both the fret hand and the picking hand–this guitar is as light as a feather with a crisp projection!

This amazing Custom Tippin Crescendo Multiscale was originally custom built for us by Master Luthier Bill Tippin. Old Growth Brazilian, Moon Spruce and a 25.5-26.25 multiscale were chosen to make this a super versatile guitar, this one can do it all! The multiscale insures that the Bass will never get weak and the Trebles will always sing! Bill added an Armrest Bevel and stunning Flamed Koa Bindings along with his elegant Sparkle MOP top trim and exquisite Yin-Yang inlay at the 12th fret. This guitar is inspiring in everyway and that’s what it’s all about. Here’s a great video of Loren Barrigar and Mark Mazengarb that features this Tippin guitar.

We loved this one so much that we teamed up with Al Petteway and recorded it on our latest album: Dream Guitars Volume II Hand Picked. It is Track #16 – The South Wind.

The kind of voice you get from a guitar like this Gibson? It’s what baby Dreadnoughts all want to grow up to sound like one day. Folks, this Heritage Dreadnought from 1967 has certainly grown up and matured into a fearsome cannon. Built like a tank with projection to match, this Heritage has Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and a Sitka Spruce top to fire out chords and single notes with ferocity. One strum, and you’re knocked off your feet–the sheer size of the voice! The Heritage Dreadnought has enormous scope, sustain for days, and an enveloping tone as dark and seductive as a moonless night. Played in for almost 50 years, she’s perfectly opened up; this one’s a real gem of a vintage Gibson. Solo arrangements are lush on this guitar, and when played in a group there’s no need to worry about not being heard. We know of some amplifiers that don’t have the air-pushing capabilities of this Heritage Dreadnought. If you’re looking for an enormous voice with rich, sumptuous sustain, look no further: the eagle has landed.

We are continually impressed by the quality of work Michael Bashkin is producing. Every guitar we have played of his has had a clarity and evenness of tone that is extraordinary. Every string has something to say, but none of them compete with each other. This Placencia in East Indian Rosewood and Sitka Spruce is an absolute sweet heart to play – you could sit with it for hours and never become fatigued. We love having it here in the shop, but we know it will be happiest in a good new home!

Here we have a Running Dog Mini Jumbo in Italian Spruce and Hawaiian Koa. This guitar is well suited for fingerstyle playing. The trebles shimmer on the melody thanks in part to the Koa and the running dog voicing, while the basses are present but never competing for sonic space. Playing this running dog feels as a well thought out fingerstyle guitar should, comfortable and natural.

This Merrill 00-18 is one that you will have to tie to your lap it is so light! Built from Mahogany and Adirondack Spruce, this little guy has all the makings of a incredible pre war style guitar. The tone is just loaded into this little body, it is so full and so lush, it took us completely by surprise. Everything we played on this one was handled gracefully, this is the definition of a versatile guitar. Grab this one while you can, it’s truly special!

This is our Second guitar we have from South Carolina luthier Anthony Ennis. Made with East Indian Rosewood and Red Cedar the combination is the same as the other guitar we have in from Anthony. What differs here though is that Anthony used Ipe wood for the unique inner bracing structure, which seems to lend a sustaining bell like quality to the treble strings. We had a good time testing these two guitars back to back, you will just have to come give us a visit to what you think the difference is between the two!

Here we have a Running DogOught 3” model in Figured Bubinga and Adirondack Spruce. When we we first took this guitar from the case we were stunned by the figured Bubinga, it’s gorgeous, and it is hard to believe that it isn’t used more often as a back and side wood. Tonally the Bubinga imparts a crispness to the tone that rivals a good set of rosewood. Paired with the creamy Adirondack top, this guitar has plenty of headroom to be driven hard, but it shows its true warm and rounded character when fingerpicked.

The National ResoRocket Wood Body is a modern version of the popular single cone resonator that offers a familiar 12 Fret neck but adds a cutaway for great access to the high registers. The All-Mahogany laminate body with it’s Ebony fingerboard and bone nut insure lots of great tone. The Pearloid headstock and Ivoroid bindings give it a classic, vintage vibe that shows where it comes from. There’s nothing quite like a National for slide or fingerstyle blues! *We offer an upgrade with the Hotplate pickup system on all National Single Cone Guitars. Just ask. Just like the movie, this limited edition “Cujo” model by Taylor has a scary bark, but once it bites you, you won’t be going anywhere! But don’t worry, this one is up to date on all its vaccinations. As fun as it is to look at and show off, this one has that world renowned Taylor voice that will have you wanting to sit and play for hours at a time. Part roadworthy touring guitar, part fine collector’s piece, this beast-of-all-trades deserves a good home.

This guitar will take your breath away; The Quilted Maple top is of a super rare quality only enhanced by the excellent stain work. This McCarty has a chocolatey Rosewood neck and a show stopping white washed Swamp Ash boddy. Paul Reed Smith himself oversaw the construction of this guitar, the build quality is flawless. Versatility is the name of the game here, if you want it to sound like a Stratocaster it will, or how about a Les Paul? it can do that too, or play around with the selectors and find a sound all your own!

Here we have a Kenny Hill Signature model in Englemann Spruce and East Indian Rosewood. This Signature model has the millennium style neck, this gives great access to the upper fret register, and also imparts a beautiful harp like quality to the tone. Kenny’s build quality is outstanding, all of the appointments are perfectly done. We would be hard pressed to find a more elegant looking and sounding guitar.

This is the quintessential flatpickers guitar, it has all the growl and power you need to cut through a jam session. Lawrence Brown is a well know lute builder so his chops at building guitars are quite high, and he couldn’t have chosen a better wood combo. He combined Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce here for that clasic pre war sound, with Fossilized Walrus Ivory “Red Eye” bridge pins for a bit of extra flair.

Here we have a John Kinnaird “East” model in Honduran Rosewood and Adirondack (Red) Spruce. This is a sweet and elegant little guitar, just right for playing on your couch or by the fire on a cold winters night. The voice is warm and smooth, with a notable roundness to the treble strings. This is a perfect fingerstyle guitar, the set up is just right for the left hand. This is a guitar you could play endlessly.

John Soderlund is a luthier from South Africa, hailing from diverse background of arts and sciences. He builds custom electric and acoustic guitars to make, in his own words, “… a desperate attempt to deny my own mortality or, at the very least, to leave behind some beautiful and creative products that will compost at a slower rate than my bodily remains.” We dare say, he seems to be succeeding. One look at this instrument, the Africaster, shows it’s originality. From the Wild Olive fingerboard and bindings, to the eye catching Birds Eye Maple top and neck, not to mention the tiered headplate, this is a telecaster with a style all it’s own. The combination of Maple and Olive give a warm smoothness that feels as good as it looks. The custom porter pickups offer an array of voices from clean middle positions, to screaming humbucker. An artfully crafted instrument from the other side of the world. For the player looking for adventure.

Here we have a spectacular 00 from John Greven made with beautiful Brazillian Rosewood and German Spruce. This guitar has such a unique style, almost vintage with a few hints of modern design thrown in. And with John’s tasteful two tone sunburst, it’s just gorgeous. Tonally this little 00 packs the kind of tone and volume you’d expect from a much larger guitar! It is rich and luscious, with the Brazilian adding complexity to every string and the Lutz Spruce being, in John’s own words, the “Best tonewood for finger style ever… [It] works particularly well on the smaller box because of its Adi like headroom but depth and warmth of a good Euro top.” Give it a listen and you’ll see just what all the fuss is about!
