This wonderful custom shop recreation comes from the private collection of Dream Guitars owner Paul Heumiller. He chose it for it’s great feel and tone.
From the Gibson website: “The 1958 Les Paul Reissue VOS (Vintage Original Spec) Electric Guitar from the Gibson Custom Shop has the great features, tone, and looks that made the original ’58 Les Paul a classic, but with a plain top for “workhorse” comfort and feel.
Features a maple top, mahogany back, and one-piece set-in mahogany neck with rounded ’50s neck profile, nickel plated hardware, and an original ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge. The Gibson Burstbucker Pickups used are historically accurate “Patent Applied For” replicas with an airy tone and unbalanced coils. A medium output Burstbucker 1 is used in the neck position, while the Burstbucker 2 in the bridge position has a slightly hotter output. Both have unpolished magnets and non-potted coils like the original “Patent Applied For” pickups.
Like all VOS (Vintage Original Spec) Series instruments, the 1958 Les Paul Reissue Plain Top VOS is handcrafted for comfort and playability in the Gibson Custom Shop. The construction, neck profile, hardware, and electronics are period accurate, and a special nitrocellulose finish treatment gives it the patina of a gently aged vintage guitar. “

Gibson celebrated the late Bob Marley with this limited-edition, Bob Marley Les Paul Special, a reissue built to the exact specifications of his guitar on display at the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Jamaica. The solidbody mahogany guitar from Gibson’s Custom Shop, Art & Historic division replicates a number of unique appointments including Marley’s trademark white binding on the headstock and fingerboard – now yellowed with age – and small pearl block inlays similar to a mid-1960s ES-335.
Gibson duplicates these characteristics as well as the aluminum pickguard and aluminum football-shaped switchwasher around the 3-way selector switch. A carefully aged Cherry finish as well as marks and scratches copied from the original instrument complete the well-worn look and feel of the guitar; Marley’s signature appears on the headstock. This guitar is #98 of only 200 ever made. This edition is now sold-out making this a rare find.

From his early Prestige recordings, through his comeback albums, and beyond, he has always delivered some of the finest melodic improvisation in Jazz history. It’s fitting then that Pat’s signature Gibson guitar is an equally impressive instrument, with the ability to capture nearly any musical idea. The Gibson Pat Martino Custom is a great choice for jazz and fusion players, but the pickups are equally capable of producing great rock and blues tones too. It has a great feeling neck that is on the slim side, but it still has a solid, substantial feel to it and enough weight to add great sustain.
