Grit Laskin built this amazing showpiece for this year’s Montreal Guitar Show. It is called ‘The Blue Trumpet’ and features a wonderous inlay theme with the words ‘What A Wonderful World’ adorning the fingerboard. The letters themselves are the Ebony board showing through the surround of various Pearl. Inside of the first 6 letters you will discoverd the Blue Trumpet in great detail. Topping it off on the headplate is an iconic image of the infectious smile of Louie Armstrong, simply one of the finest musicians to ever inspire us all.
For all it’s art, this is also perhaps the finest sounding Laskin instrument we’ve played. Grit told DG owner Paul Heumiller how delighted he was with the voice when he first enjoyed playing it in his living room. We have to agree, the Brazilian is very old and has the brick red hues we know indicate great sounding wood. As always Grit’s Sitka stash is out of the ordinary and just astonishly good sounding. Full of color and capable of great emotion. This instrument is completed with two Laskin Bevels, for arm and ribs, and a side soundport. We are simply delighted to offer this ‘The Blue Trumpet’ from Grit Laskin.

Just in time for John Lennon 70th Birthday, Grit Laskin completed our latest commission. This guitar was a complete joy for us and what Grit came up with may be one of his most memorable Inlay themes to date. Here what Grit has to say about the project – “I was asked[by Dream Guitars Owner Paul Heumiller] to explore the general theme of “Peace”. I chose to incorporate portraits of three people who I feel have done more for the promotion of peace around the world than anyone else in our time. These three are: Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama and John Lennon.Mandela and the Dalai Lama are on the headstock, depicted within the shape of a hand displaying the peace sign. On the fretboard, on a series of 5 different placards, of the kind one would see being hand-held in a street march, are the lyrics from Lennon’s song: “All we are saying is… give peace a chance”. And John is peering out from behind one of the signs. The inlay was created with 4 different types of shell, 9 different types of stone, metal, then engraved. It took 80 hours to complete.” – Grit LaskinWe could not be more delighted with any guitar. The body, extraordinary Brazilian Rosewood and Sitka from Grit’s amazing stash, features dual bevels, a soundport and a cutaway. The voice is angelic, sonorous and sweet with lots of energy. But the artwork is sublime, so realistic and so poignant, as only Grit Laskin could create.

This is the 2008 Laskin ‘Sunset Canoe’ custom built by master Luthier Grit Laskin known as perhaps the very finest inlay artist of our time. This Mid-Sized Steel String is amazing in so many ways, the Brazilian Rosewood is among the best you can find as is the silky Sitka Spruce top. Grit, who author the book The Guitarmaker’s Canvas has created here one of his most beautiful inlays to date, in our opinion. The sun setting over a mountain lake, the canoe resting on the shore beside tall pines gives the viewer a sublime feeling of peace and invites the musical spirit to awake. The tone is as pristine as this mountain lake, with deep, round bass and full trebles that shimmer and shine. This is a one-of-a-kind and truly spectacular Laskin guitar and we are honored to offer it to you.

Benoît Lavoie has been in the lutherie game for a while now, specializing in everything from guitars and violins to cellos and double basses–all that diverse experience, when married with his exciting sense of curve and a scientist’s eye, makes for one heck of a luthier.
Our 2017 Multiscale wonder in Ziricote and Adirondack Spruce will shake the windowpanes right out of their frames. Benoît voiced the Adi top for a powerful response that’s best summoned with an aggressive attack. Dig in and dig in, but this Lavoie won’t top out! The multiscale fretboard extends from 27” on the bass up to 25.5” on the treble, and we found it soaked up C tunings like a thirsty sponge. The offset soundhole and large soundport that spans the corner of the upper bout help project this guitar’s girthy voice right to the player, but all that rich volume doesn’t stop at the player’s ear: this guitar also projects outward with fierce intensity.
Since we first sold this guitar in 2017, it’s had an armrest installed, and it’s been fitted for a custom Hoffee case (fits like a glove!). It’s been played in a lot, and has opened up immensely, but we think it’s going to keep up the moment for a long time to come.Other keywords: lutherie, multi scale, fingerboard, waverly, slotted headstock, venetian cutaway

From inlay phenom and luthier maestro Harvey Leach, we’ve got a gorgeous Cremona model from 2002 decked out with sweet woods and a sprawling series of tiger inlays. Flamed Koa back and sides pair with a Flamed Millennium Redwood top for a unique combination of dry, punchy trebles and a warm midrange. Starting at the headstock, continuing along the fretboard, and finally terminating at the end graft are four tiger inlays—the stripes of which set off the wavy figure of the Redwood top to a T. Abalone trim along the top bindings, gold Grover tuners, and a slim, just over four pounds playing weight complete the package.

Jakob Lebisch suffuses poise, presence, and a sumptuously diverse tonal palette throughout the voice on this 2020 Double Top. Simply incredible. We’re flabbergasted by the velvetness of the trebles; there’s an alluring blooming quality, with cool overtones, that’s rarely seen. That top end mixes up flawlessly with a warm, articulate midrange—and the bass response fill out the voice with an easy warmth and roundness that hangs in the air. Lebisch’s double top construction adds power for the concert hall, but not at the cost of elegance and tonal range which many double top designs suffer from. On the tonewood front, Lebisch is working with classics, a combination of Indian Rosewood body with a doubled Italian Spruce top, Spanish Cedar neck, and a unique Ebony rosette inlaid with brass that further sets this guitar apart. The build weight is an incredible 2lbs 15oz! And gold Scheller tuners to round out the image, plus a gloss-finished 12-hole bridge.
Jakob Lebisch has built a lifetime concert instrument with this one, and we’re so excited to get it into your hands.Other keywords: classical guitar, classical, nylon string, luthier, lutherie, fingerstyle, marquetry, handmade, french polished, steve newbrough, andy jurik, hiscox

Luthiers Bernie Lehmann and Jeff Cole have teamed up to create a unique offering: a tribute to Louis Panormo’s “Spanish Style” guitars from 1830s London. Constructed with modern techniques and materials at hand, this Panormo marries the traditional–like Brazilian Rosewood sides and a bees wax finished top–with the contemporary–see the graphite saddle. “I want people to be unsure if it is old or new when the first look at it,” says Lehmann. Of course, it’s a little bit of both. This Panormo features solid Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, and a Spanish heel with Panorama-style fan bracing.
The Sitka Spruce top is finished to a matte sheen with beeswax and adorned by a pearl-inlaid bridge and rosette. Brazilian Rosewood for the fretboard, itself adorned with EVO gold frets, mated beautifully to the ebonised Mahogany neck. Right down to the hand-turned Mammoth Ivory endpin and strap button, the attention to detail by Lehmann & Cole has paid off handsomely–and the voice is sweet, balanced, and surprisingly loud. For the Civil War buff or Early Romantic Classical musician, this Panormo is a one-of-a-kind right up your alley. And it comes with a custom coffin case from Lehmann & Cole, dark-green and burgundy like the original!

The next closest thing to holding the 1700s in your hands: Bernie Lehmann’s copy of the 1780 Renault & Chatelain guitar. You can see the original at the Musée de la Musique in Paris, France, but of course they don’t let you take it off the wall for a strum. Lucky for you, Bernie’s managed to create one that you can take home for yourself. Curly Maple back and sides with tight grain, Engelmann Spruce top finished in beeswax, with the final frets inlaid directly into the upper bout.
In Bernie’s own words, “This is a fine example of a transitional instrument between the five course, double strung Baroque guitar, and the modern 6-string guitar. It retains the elongated body and flush fingerboard, with the top extending over the body joint of a Baroque guitar, and the larger bridge and six single strings of the Romantic era guitar.” Bernie’s made sure this piece can survive the test of time, so you’ll find graphite embedded in the neck for reinforcement, and a bolt-on heel. The body is finished with catalyzed spirit varnish, and the tuners are actually 4:1 geared tuners in a friction tuner shape. Modern convenience, period correct look!
For the recreation of historical guitars and beyond, you’re hard-pressed to find a better builder than Bernie Lehmann. His Renault & Chatelain is not one to miss!

Bernie Lehmann’s creations hold a unique corner of the already highly individualized world of modern lutherie. Not only does his Master Model 2000 feature a vaulted back (here comprised of Brazilian Rosewood ribs) and chip-carved appointments across a Sitka Spruce top, but it’s also got a bolt-on neck, grained ivoroid-bound soundport, and spirit varnished body. A blending of lute traditions with contemporary design that yields extra projection and colorful bass without deepening the sides to cavernous proportions.
Lehmann adds an extra dollop of juicy goodness to the trebles with the addition of a bone block on the bridge plate (which also serves to protect the plate from string wear); dovetails sweetly with a very articulate and balanced middle register. Fingerstyle machinations in standard tuning and beyond feel right at home, but the setup has enough give to allow for smooth transitions to and fro with flatpicking.
25-year-old Sitka Spruce on top, Brazilian Rosewood back and sides that Bernie’s held onto since the 1980s, and a slim fighting weight of 3lbs 13oz—our latest Master Model 2000 is in a class all of its own.

Trust us when we say that no one builds quite like Bernard Lehmann–one look at this Master Model 2000, and the proof is in the pudding. And by pudding, we mean the gorgeous chip-carved trim around the Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top, the pierced rosette (paying homage to a lute’s soundhole), floral inlaid bone markers across the fretboard, and of course, the ribbed and vaulted Ebony back. Designed to maximize bass response with the enlarged air cavity, the vaulted back tapers to normally-sized sides, so optimum comfort is maintained for the player. In order to get cavernous depths like this Master Model 2000 is capable of, you would ordinarily need a much larger Jumbo guitar, with its accompanying setbacks, but this instrument is able to seamlessly fuse the tonal response of an OM-size with an expansive low-end.
With the addition of an Ivoroid-bound soundport on the upper bout, all of that rich warmth is broadcasted straight to the player’s ear, as your own personal monitor. We tried out tunes in Standard, DADGAD, Cadd9, and others, and each time we were very impressed by the responsiveness and clarity across all the registers–there’s nothing Lehmann’s Master Model 2000 can’t handle.

Bernie Lehmann’s model 2000 designs with their vaulted backs are not only breathtakingly beautiful, but they really work for the good of the tone. This design allows the back to go unbraced so the guitar is very light and responsive. Here on this short scale (630mm) Nylon string Classical 2000 model, you get a fast attack and a full note from every string. The unique cutaway offers a wonderful modern touch to this otherwise ‘yesteryear’ looking guitar. The real Ivory appointments are from salvaged Piano Keys, from one musical instrument to another.

Here we have a true work of art from Bernie Lehmann. This Lehmann Model 2000 Millenium is crafted from Ebony and Sitka in a ribbed, vaulted body style. If that’s not enough it is adorned with a carved rosette and top trim, intricate fingerboard inlay, slotted headstock, soundport and real Ivory accents (from recycled Piano Keys). The voice is strong, airy and sweet. You can hear Bernie Lehmann’s early experience with early instruments in this guitar. It breathes with every note, the articulation and clarity are other worldly. This is something different and something wonderful!
From the Lehmann Website: “Model 2000 is my latest concept in fine guitars for the fingerstylist. It incorporates a ribbed, vaulted back that not only looks stunning, but affects the tone in several positive ways. The volume is increased by focusing the sound towards the soundhole. This in turn lends an amazing clarity of tone, which is ideal for recording and amplification. Thirdly, the projection and carrying power of this instrument are remarkably enhanced by the unique design of the back. The highly arched design of the back makes the guitar very comfortable to hold because the sides are narrowest at the lower bout, right where the player’s arm rests. The guitar feels like a thin body instrument, but sacrifices nothing in interior volume. The unique structure of the back provides surprising strength without any bracing being necessary.”
