This guitar comes with an extra set of socks, since the pair you’re wearing at the first strum will be blown to smithereens. An archtop of this calibre, we see one but rarely: a 1995 Bob Benedetto Limelite. Lightly figured Maple back and neck, dyed-to-match Euro Spruce top, and a 25 inch scale per the original owner’s request. This Benedetto came out of Bob’s East Stroudsburg shop, straight from Bob’s hands to the current owner’s. As such, this is a single owner Benedetto that’s been well-cared for and plays like your grandma’s butter.
The Benedetto humbucker and integrated pickguard volume knob are simple and no-fuss, offering a thunderclap bass and great string-to-string response. The acoustic voice keeps the embers burning in the middle register and fans the flames out to bass and trebles: lively, energetic, with great projection.

at one of Bob Benedetto’s guitar making classes in 1992 but the instrument was not completed. The parts were later brought to famed luthier Giuliano’s Guitar Shop in White Plains, NY. Giuliano, if you are not familiar with his name, was the one who refinished the famous D’Angelico “Fin” archtop owned by Scott Chinery. Giuliano assembled and finished the guitar to perfection. All the work is top notch especially Giuliano’s finish. The guitar is signed inside by Bob Benedetto as well as Bob Moyhchi and dated 9/92. An amazing story for a brilliant guitar.

If you want a big voice from a small place, this 2008 Beneteau 00 12-Fret is the dream machine that can take you there. Hearty and expansive midrange, round and articulate trebles, frankly great bass–it’s wide awake and singing sweetly. The Brazilian Rosewood body with Cedar top is part of that of course, but the rest is the alchemy of play time and Marc’s efforts during the build. The bridge is also an upgraded Brazilian Rosewood pyramid number that sets off the Cedar top and figured rosette; ditto for the bindings and headplate. The neck features a wider 1 13/16″ nut for an extra comfy lefthand experience, while the scale is 25.6″ to keep the tone crisp and defined.

This is a sweet, smooth, and well-oiled machine. We’re in love. Marc Beneteau has been one of our favorite builders from our neighboring Canada for a number of years, and he is well loved in the modern fingerstyle world (if Don Ross is on board, you know he’s doing something right). Here we’ve landed a Concert Standard Cutaway from 2003 that’s opened up handsomely for a lively, expansive voice that balances lush overtones with a crisp and strong fundamental. Fingerstylists, take heed! Brazilian Rosewood back and sides pair up with German Spruce on top, and additionally Marc has added an arm bevel for creature comfort—plus a K&K Trinity pickup system. We just refretted this one so it’s ready for more action!

Marc Beneteau’s take on the Nick Lucas model has a bucket full of bass and sparkling trebles on top. This deep bodied fingerstyle machine makes for a great companion for singer-songwriters, or for any devotee to open tunings (it’s particularly warm to Open G). Gorgeous Quilted Pomele Sapele back and sides, Adirondack Spruce top, BRW bridge, Waverly tuners and a 25.4” fretboard—all the fixings for an energetic little sound cannon. And this gem from 2008 comes to us with nary a scratch on it! You can’t get much more minty than this without it arriving shrink wrapped in its original packaging.

This Baritone is the guitar equivalent of a 20oz porterhouse steak: at first glance it seems like too much, but after the first bite you know it’s a perfect fit. We don’t know what Marc Beneteau’s been feeding his regular guitars to make them grow up to be such impressive baritones, but the results are hard to miss. Juicy, fat trebles. Bass response with some meat on its bones. Sustain so prolonged you have to chase it away with a stick.
Marc put together this 2007 powerhouse with a shorter (in Baritone land) 27” scale and his M body (16 1/8” lower bout) in a Macassar Ebony and Sitka Spruce package—the Ebony and scale warm up the voice and keep it articulate, while the Sitka makes sure all those beefy overtones project well beyond the soundhole. There’s also a Laskin-style Arm Bevel and a soundport in the upper bout, and a McIntyre Feather pickup with which to make a splash into amplified territory. Honduran Rosewood and Sitka Spruce combine for clarity and depth, especially in DADGAD. The round C profile neck is feels like a sip of cold tea (or your preferred beverage) on a hot summer’s day: smooth, smooth, smooth. The Venetian Cutaway and Laskin-style arm bevel make playing even easier, and the setup is just as slinky as the neck profile.

How does Marc Beneteau manage to create a guitar with such pinpoint clarity and startling depth? It’s like peering into a deep pool of water in the middle of winter, listening to this 2016 M model: you can see clear to the bottom, and it’s a long way down. Each string is powerful, and powerfully balanced with the others, rendering the voice complex, but bracingly articulate. If fingerstyle is your game, this Beneteau M in Granadillo and Alaskan Sitka Spruce is a dream come true. The setup works wonders for flatpicking too: in DADGAD, Standard, or elsewhere, the play feel remains silky and effortless.
With a Venetian Cutaway and Ryan-style arm bevel your player comfort is further enhanced, and with the addition of a small soundport in the upper bout you get a sweet extra dose of bass right to your ear. It’s not hard to understand why so many of of Canada’s top guitar virtuosos play Marc’s guitars–there’s a precision, clarity, and depth of tone to his guitars which many luthiers aim for, but only a few achieve. Marc’s the latter for sure.

Designed for one of our clients in love with the Beneteau sound, this Custom Concert Standard passed through our shop for less than 24 hours before we sent it on to its excited owner–but not before we got a chance to put the guitar through its paces, or to snap some quick photos and video! This 2016 Beneteau with African Blackwood and European Spruce is gorgeous and richly-colored (and that’s just its appearance), and plays like melted butter on sourdough toast. This is the cream of the crop in Baritone land and was originally commissioned by Paul Heumiller, owner of Dream Guitars. This Beneteau guitar has it all, beauty, tone, and playability… the Trifecta. It take a great luthier to be able to voice a Baritone guitar properly, they can often be voice to be muddy or to tight sounding. This Beneteau has hit the perfect balance, it has a gut rumbling bass presence and full sonorous trebles. It is a thing of beauty. Playabilty on a Baritone is a big issue, the longer scale can often make it feel like you are doing gymnastics, that is not the case here, the action is set nice and low, making this Bari play like a dream. This really is worth the tittle of ‘Dream Guitar.”
