2011 Beauregard OMC African Blackwood/Cedar
To everyone who’s bid on a charity guitar, everyone who’s gotten the word out to lend a hand, everyone who’s just donated straight to the cause—Dream Guitars thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. We’ve been able to raise thousands of dollars for Puerto Rico hurricane relief, to support hurricane soup kitchens in Houston, Texas, and to help fight the forest fires plaguing California. But the fight is far from over! We want to wrap up 2017 with a strong display of solidarity for these and other causes. This time we’re auctioning three guitars at once! This 2011 Mario Beauregard OMC is on auction to continue to support the United For Puerto Rico fund providing food, water, and more to an island still struggling to survive. This guitar was originally $9,995, but bidding starts at only $4,995.
Follow the contour from florentine cutaway to fretboard, from the sharp peak to cinched waist, down to the 15 5/8″ lower bout. Take in the glassy smoothness of the finish, the way the Ebony bridge rises organically up from below the rosette, itself a quiet testament to the vibrancy of Abalone and Koa. Feel the gentle curve of the C-shaped neck in your left hand, fret ends rounded into half globes after the style of Ervin Somogyi. This 2011 OM-C from Mario Beauregard is a study in smoothness, in a calm and collected style that catches the eye with its simple elegance.
We’d expect no less from one of Somogyi’s graduates–and the voice cannot fail but to inspire. Bass notes have a clean, well-defined edge; the middle register lively, balanced; the trebles haunting in their sustain. For the fingerstylist who needs each string and every note to ring clear as its own bell, this Beauregard OM-C more than fits the bill. Listen to Al’s sample, you’ll hear what we’re talking about. Mario’s ability to voice a guitar to produce complex overtones on top of a pianistically precise projection utilizes the combination of African Blackwood and Cedar to be perfect for all kinds of music, and all sorts of tunings. We found DADGAD and CGCGAD to be lively and crisp, with a comfortable play feel.

2006 Beauregard OM African Blackwood/Cedar
Fingerstyle guitars are definitely one of our specialties, and we’ve spent a lot of time with different scale lengths, wood combinations, body sizes, and nut widths. From those years of study, we’ve formed a mental image of what an ideal fingerstyle instrument needs in order to blow us away. This 2006 Beauregard OM–a living example of that ideal. Mario paired a dark-grained set of African Blackwood with Red Cedar, a newer pairing that luthiers are just now experimenting with, and the result is oceanic in its depth, and atmospheric in its clarity.
The bass strings have a fundamentally rich tonality, perfectly balanced with the other registers, which lends the entire voice an enveloping array of colors. The setup is glass-smooth with a 1 25/32″ nut and low action for effortless playing–and with an aggressive attack or gentle touch, this Beauregard’s voice is teeming with energy and sustain. To describe this guitar as lush in lowered tuning would be an understatement: played in DADGAD, this Beauregard has a profound resonance and harmonic palette.

2008 Beauregard MB Flamed Maple/Spruce
Let the good times roll! With an MB like this one from Mr. Beauregard in your hands, the world becomes a much more exciting place. Featuring gorgeous Flamed Maple for the back, sides, and neck, and a Spruce top, this MB’s voice has generous warmth, and excellent responsiveness. Observe how Mario completely carves the Maple sides, and backs the F-holes with black-dyed Maple baffles to moderate the air flow, reduce feedback, and maximize the MB’s warm Jazz Box tone–yielding a svelte, attractive design.
The contours are delectably smooth, and feel perfectly natural while playing–this is a guitar which fits securely in your arms, with an excellent balance that keeps it easily and comfortably in optimal playing position, thanks to its lightweight construction. The trebles are particularly quick and responsive with the single Humbucker pickup, and man! to hear this baby with an Overdrive pedal. 2008 Beauregard MB Semi-Hollow Maple/Spruce
At Dream Guitars, we often have players visit of such calibre that we’re struck dumb when they take a guitar down to play. Not nearly as often are we reduced to silence simply at the sight of a guitar–but this 2008 Beauregard MB is just such an instrument. Whoa! Beauregard has outfitted this beauty with two powerhouse P90 pickups which can scream for Blues while at the same time remaining fat and warm for Jazz. Versatile, in a word. This is as dynamic as they come, with a glossy finish that is feather-smooth to the touch. With arcing curves like a drop of water sliding along the face of a wineglass, this Beauregard MB in Maple and Spruce might be the most beautiful Semi-Hollow or Archtop guitar we’ve seen. Its previous owner has been incredibly careful, too: this is a gem with no discernible marks to mar the surface of the Spruce or the Ebony bridge and tailpiece.

Mario Beauregard is an extremely talented and world renowned luthier whose fingerstyle instruments are in high demand, thanks to his top-tier voicing and drop dead gorgeous aesthetics. We have worked with Mario in the past and are happy to host one of his brand new instruments featuring his all new headstock design here in our shop. You can watch the brilliant fingerstyle virtuoso Antoine Dufour put this guitar through it paces in this video here.
This instrument is one with excellent focus and distinction between the strings thanks to the 12 fret body joint, as well as superior sustain for those who like to draw out their notes. The highly figured Flamed Maple and Italian Spruce are reactive and extremely well suited to precise playing styles, but in Mario’s hands they have a subtle complexity and warmth that open new possibilities to players seeking inspiration in unexplored directions. This is a guitar that evokes change in the player, giving you perspective as you play.

2007 Beauregard OM Brazilian/Italian
Mario Beauregard was one of the early apprentices of Ervin Somogyi along with Michihiro Matsuda. Mario’s guitars are superbly built, with a little of that Somogyi flare that he picked up during the apprenticeship. This OM in Italian Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood is an all out fingerpickers dream. The tone is decadent, trebles blend perfectly with the bass creating a nice fat sound that is just brilliant. There is a good reason why renowned fingerstyle player Antoine Dufour plays a Beauregaurd as his main guitar, they are responsive and able to produce any tone you can dream up.

Beauregard MB Flamed Maple/Spruce
Here is one of the coveted Maria Beauregard MB hollow body models. This one in stunning Flamed Maple and Spruce with a absolutely gorgeous honeyburst finish. The deeply rounded edges make the MB one of the most comfortable guitars we’ve ever held. Mario added black & white perflings everywhere, the top, fingerboard and headplate, which really add a touch of elegance to an the natural beauty of the woods. This MB has a single Kent Armstrong pickup making it a great choice for jazz, but it’s also quite versatile. Lastly there are a hand carved bridge and tailpiece with Mario’s signature tailpiece post design. Mario no longer makes the MB so this is a rare chance to acquire one for yourself.
2010 Beauregard OM Indian/European
This Mario Beauregard OM is a joy to play. It is harmonically rich, with a pleasant roundness to the trebles. The bass frequencies are warm, and well defined, making this elegant instrument a superb choice for fingerstyle music. It is respoonsive to a light touch, but also happy to be played hard. Constructed of Indian Rosewood and European Spruce, the Beauregard OM is an impeccably built sharp looking guitar, that offers a wealth of great sound.

2005 Beauregard OM Brazilian/European
This Brazilian/Euro OM from Mario Beauregard is the epitome of balance and power. Every note rings clear and true with a sonorous beauty that is compelling. This guitar feels like a sports car, it seems to have gears and moves easily from gentle to down right powerful. It has a short 24.9″ scale and comfortable fingerstyle spacing so it plays with ease. This is a real player’s guitar that allows for expression at the highest level in terms of both dynamic range and lush tones. Well done Mario!

2004 Beauregard SJ Brazilian/German
This is a wonderful Beauregard Guitar with Mario’s refined sound and a full, rich bass. This guitar is ultra-responsive and alive. It so much fun to play in drop tunings and also right at home in standard. Crafted from lovely Brazilian and perfect German Spruce it has the dignified tone you would expect and can just as easily be driven hard. I love the lines and the feel of this one.

2006 Beauregard SJ Brazilian/Swiss
Here we have a rare preowned Beauregard SJ. Mario is one of the most popular builders today, his craftsmanship and tone set him apart. This SJ offers the perfect combination of power and beauty of voice. The bass is huge and satisfying and the trebles sweet and clear. The Swiss Spruce top combines with the dramatic Brazilian Rosewood for a uniquely lush voice with plenty of projection. Built to perfection with obvious love for the craft.

1894 Beitel, Brazilian Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce
When you listen carefully, a little piece of history can be heard crackling in the voice of vintage instruments such as this 1894 Parlor guitar from C.T. Beitel (1869-1916), one of the only examples existent today. Beitel, who worked with Martin at the end of the nineteenth century, has been identified by some as the first American-born apprentice at Martin. Clemence was the cousin of C.A. Zoebisch, Martin’s distributer in those days. This instrument was completed and signed by Beitel in June of 1894, and you can still see his signature on the underside of the top (“C.T. Beitel, 6/94, Easton”).
Understandably, this Parlor is similar to Martin’s instruments at the time in many ways, but it doesn’t fit neatly into any of Martin’s appointment packages. The top is X braced and features a Pearl rosette and Herringbone purflings. The body and neck is bound in actual Ivory (which was also used to make the oval-shaped tuner buttons). The Maple bridge plate is to all appearances original, as is bridge, the Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, and the Adirondack Spruce top. The tuners are original as well: German-built Jerome tuners engraved with flowers. These tuners were only found on Martin’s most decadent models from this period.
The voice is creamy smooth and tinged with warm overtones, and plays very easily. Weighing under three pounds, this Beitel is a true featherweight, but still manages to pack a lot of sound into a small package. We’d expect no less from an instrument that precedes us by over 117 years!

2019 Michel Belair “Hommage a Daniel Friederich,” Indian Rosewood/Cedar
Canada’s Michel Belair has rendered a faithful homage to one of Classical Lutherie’s late masters, Daniel Friederich, with this model from 2019. Belair, a professional musician in addition to being a builder, has owned two Friederichs, #557 and #763, the latter of which was used as the basis for this Hommage model. Belair was able to use Friederich’s personal notes from that build in order to dial in every aspect of the build, from the density and deflection of the Cedar top (with matching grain and coloration to the original) to the interior side laminations of Mahogany (Rosewood outside) and Rodgers tuners. The result is phenomenal. The instrument sings; clarity across all the registers, with a powerful and balanced bass response that pairs well with sweet, articulate trebles.

2003 Bellido Flamenco 1A Cypress/Cedar
This is simply a great F 1a flamenco guitar from Jose Lopez Bellido, one of Granada’s leading guitar makers. Not only is the workmanship on this instrument outstanding, but it also possesses firm but profound basses, a vibrant mid-range and concentrated trebles that still sing at the 19th fret. True Flamenco tone with a bit more warmth thanks to the Cypress being paired with a Cedar top. This Bellido guitar one has qualities of both a Blanca and a Negra. Excellent, smooth action rounds out this wonderful instrument. Comes complete with fancy Fustero Tuners as well.
