2015 Bourgeois Aged Tone Piccolo Parlor, Cocobolo/Adirondack Spruce
A big treat can come in a small package. We’ve got a sweetheart Piccolo Parlor from Dana Bourgeois and co decked out in Cocobolo and Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce that’s a blast to play, and stands apart from the crowd with its trim dimensions and crisp voice. Built in 2015, this Bourgeois only has a few years under its belt and is in excellent condition—all the better to show off these gorgeous tonewoods and Aged Tone finish. On the back you’ll find Dana’s “Arrowhead” center strip marquetry, which dovetails nicely with the half herringbone trim on top. Bindings are Ziricote, with Fossilized Mammoth Ivory squares and diamonds inlaid across the fretboard, and hide glue construction throughout.

Our 2004 Bourgeois Vintage D has been played in and opened up like nothing else—loud, responsive, and powerful. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides paired with an Adirondack Spruce top in the prewar tradition, with 28-style Herringbone appointments and Waverly tuners. The neck is finished in half satin, and is such a smooth operator in the left hand. That, combined with a setup that’s dialed down from Bluegrass territory, makes for an eminently playable Vintage D, one that we found ourselves drawn to pick up again and again. The previous owner had a Fishman Matrix Infinity pickup system installed that translates all that Bourgeois richness faithfully to the stage—this is a Dreadnought built to be played, and played often.

Pull out every stop, and you’ve got something half as sweet and responsive as this 2007 Bourgeois NAMM Soloist, number eight of nine. Dana and his team spared no detail when building this beauty: Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Italian Spruce top, Waverly tuners, flawless fit-n-finish. Our Soloist is an extremely easy player that loves standard tuning as much as Open D, and we found it responded well to even an aggressive attack. The Soloist/OM shape is comfortable in your arms, and the cutaway gives your left hand carte blanche across the fretboard. We’re happy to report this tone machine hasn’t been lying dormant, collecting dust, since 2007. It’s in great condition, with only a few marks and wear on the neck that come from long hours of making music.

This 2016 Bourgeois “Whyte Rabbit” has a voice that’s equal parts clarity, warmth, and sparkle—not to mention its blazing white aesthetic. When Dana was approached to build an all-white guitar, he took to the idea with gusto. Result: the semi-transparent Whyte Rabbit L-DBO before you now, based off of the limited run of Bourgeois L-DBO Presentation models (see here for the last one we sold: https://www.dreamguitars.com/shop/2016-bourgeois-l-dbo-presentation-le-9-of-10-ziricote-adirondack-spruce-007563.html). If you were at the 2017 Winter NAMM show, odds are you spotted this snowy gem at the Bourgeois booth!
Figured Maple back and sides are paired with an Aged Tone Adirondack Top, Maple bridge, and MOP-and-Abalone encrusted fretboard for a dazzling effect. The previous owner outfitted this handsome powerhouse with an L.R. Baggs Anthem SL pickup (which sounds rich and acoustic, by the way), and upgraded the case to a custom-fit Hoffee number in black and green.
We love the voice of this Whyte Rabbit. A delicious balance between richness and crisp definition, this Bourgeois is a fantastic fingerpicking guitar, and it soaks up open tunings particularly well.

Simply delicious. We’re here to offer one of the most painstaking examples of Bourgeois craftsmanship in this 2016 L-DBO Presentation model. Number nine of an exclusive ten, this is the only guitar in the collection with Ziricote and Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce, an exciting blend of classic and contemporary tonewoods, and you’ll find that the rest of the instrument has been done up in high style with a rich bounty of Abalone and Pearl. The Ebony fretboard is almost completely covered with Pearl blocks, themselves inlaid with floral Abalone patterns; a motif you will also find on the wings of the bridge and the heelcap. Antique Walrus Ivory pins, Waverly tuners, and a tiger stripe pickguard for a flash of something off the menu.
A dark and moody sunburst spans the top, which sets off the Abalone trim, and the fact that this Bourgeois comes in a custom fit Hoffee flight case lets us know that this guitar will be safe for the long haul. In spite of this guitar’s trim dimensions, there is a fierce and lively quality to the L-DBO Presentation’s voice that gives the impression of a larger instrument. Instead of a plunky picker, we found real power and dynamism.
It’s an incredible find, to have an instrument whose gorgeous aesthetic is only matched by its voice. We cannot recommend this exclusive Bourgeois L-DBO Presentation more highly.Other keywords: lutherie, luthier, 9/10, 9 of 10, waverlies, age tone top, torrefied top, torrefication, brazilian rosewood, dana bourgeois

Here’s a little piece of recent Bourgeois history that’s got us all excited: Dana’s 2014 Tony Rice Tribute Dreadnought. With Tony’s permission, Dana built this dreadnought as inspired by Tony’s 1935 D-28 to sell it in a benefit auction to raise money to help support Tony during his illness. Several years later, and now this Bourgeois TR Tribute is available through Dream Guitars. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Dana’s Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce on top, enlarged soundhole and drop-in saddle, Waverly tuners, tortoise-style pickguard, herringbone trim.
We were overjoyed to play this guitar. Excellent note clarity from string to string, and a truly effortless setup made this Bourgeois an addictive instrument to play. The middle register appears to have a subtle boost that helps flesh out the voice, and give a bit more color to chords and strumming. Played lightly or hard, the Tony Rice Tribute Dreadnought offers up sustain, clarity, and balance. It’s incredible to find such a masterfully balanced dread, but we’d expect no less from Dana Bourgeois, or indeed any guitar modeled after Tony’s.

Here we have a gorgeous 2012 Bourgeois DBJC Custom in Cocobolo Rosewood and European Spruce. This Bourgeois is exquisite in every way–the tonewoods, the build quality, and fit-n-finish are all perfect. This guitar has the power and headroom to really dig in, but it also has a sweeter more delicate side, thanks in part to the large soundboard area. It’s worth stressing the wow factor of the Cocobolo. Rich brick-red hues with sapwood in the center! It’s some of the finest-quartered and best-looking we’ve encountered in some time. That fact, combined with tasteful Flamed Koa bindings, a cutaway for enhanced access to the upper register, and a K&K Pure Mini installed by yours truly make this one a winning pick every day of the year. Fossilized Mastadon Ivory bridge pins, bone nut and saddle, hide glue construction, and a varnish finish don’t hurt either!

Straight from four time Grammy Award winner David Holt’s hands to yours! This gorgeous Bourgeois Aged Tone OM was David’s for several years, and now we’re proud to offer it up to you.
Great articulation, great balance, dynamic tone–these are the qualities you look for in a quality instrument. Bourgeois Guitars has taken that to heart, building powerful steel strings with traditional appointments, like this Bourgeois 2013 OM. Mahogany back and sides, when combined with the Adirondack Spruce top, gives the guitar a rich, complex tone and a pianistic separation of notes. The middle registers have that perfect level of overtones, and the low-end is comparable to a Dreadnought, but Bourgeois’s OM shape insures that the instrument’s voice is very balanced. This guitar opens up magnificently with an aggressive attack and takes on an explosive projection when played in Drop D (making it a great candidate for Irish accompaniment). Tight control and a quick response: this is one strong player.

Dana Bourgeois and his team have brought their considerable talents to bear on this particular build. A 2016 OM-DB Signature with dark Mahogany back and sides and an Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce top, it’s practically brand new but already loud as July 4 and about as exciting. Bourgeois deepened the sides of this OM and enlarged the soundhole to 4 1/2 inches to increase the projection and bass; big ‘ole soundhole makes for a big ‘ole voice. To spice up the appointments they added Snakewood buttons to the Waverly tuners and Figured Koa bindings to the headstock, fretboard, and body.
Of course this deep-body beauty sounds great in standard tuning, but it also belts out some serious rich basses in Drop D or DADGAD. If you’re looking for a stick of dynamite for fingerstyle, flatpicking, solo work and group jamming, this cracklin’ thunderball of an OM from Bourgeois is just what the doctor ordered. Give us a ring for an in-hand description!

Not a Bourgeois passes through this shop that doesn’t wow us, and this 2011 Bourgeois SJ Signature more than did the trick! With a gorgeous set of Madagascar Rosewood for the back and sides and an Adirondack Spruce top, this SJ looks as good as it sounds–and that’s saying a lot. The voice is firecracker-crisp and focused, perfect for recording, and packs a fierce amount of projection regardless if you’re playing fingerstyle or with flatpicks.
Fast, clean playing is made possible by this Bourgeois’s smooth low setup, and the punchy low end is excellently balanced with the other strings to make this guitar articulate and precise, even when driven hard. In wonderful shape, this 2011 SJ is itching to be played, and comes with a TKL hardshell case for protection on those rare moments when you won’t be playing this dynamic livewire.

Here, we’re looking at a guitar which elicits a visceral response from the player. This 2007 Bourgeois OMS was custom-built with Macassar Ebony for the back and sides, Italian Spruce for the top, and a 12-fret neck for clarity and punch. The ideal fingerstyle guitar, this OMS responds beautifully to a range of approaches, offering impressive depth of tone and articulate warmth in the middle registers to breathe new life into your fingerstyle arrangements.
This Bourgeois is so comfortable to play (with freshly polished frets courtesy of our very own repair shop), it’s difficult to keep track of time when it’s in your hands. There are notes across the upper register which shimmer with overtones once played, and from the low E to the high, the balance is precise and even. Lowered tunings let the bass notes really swell, thanks to the striking Macassar Ebony back and sides, and the setup is glass-smooth and addictively effortless.

Dana Bourgeois’s team has consistently churned out some gorgeous guitars for the NAMM shows over the years, and this OMS, made for Winter NAMM 2005, is number nine of ten! Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, Adirondack Spruce for the top, 12-fret design for maximum warmth, arm rest for added comfort–what more could one ask for of a fingerstyle instrument?
The slightly wider nut (at 1 25/32″) gives the left hand just a smidge more room, making those complex fingerings easier, and the 12-fret neck gives the strings an easy tension that oozes rich warmth right out of the gate. Players looking for an intimately-sized guitar with a focused, articulate voice, look no further: this 2005 Bourgeois provides excellent string-to-string balance, and has just had its frets freshly polished by our repair staff so it plays like a newborne babe.

If you missed the Bourgeois Martin Simpson we had in the store a few months ago, now’s your chance to strike while the iron’s hot! Speaking of heat, you’d best take care when handling this guitar: she’s hot to trot and as loud as a firecracker. Maybe that doesn’t quite capture the kind of heat that this hotrod’s putting out; let’s say what this guitar really is: a big-voiced cannon with just 12 frets. Her previous owner is a gigging musician (which is why she comes with a Highlander IP-2 pickup and mic), so rest assured, the East Indian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce have been completely opened up, rendering the voice huge, yet balanced, and effortlessly responsive. This is #1 of 25 Limited Edition Martin Simpsons that Bourgeois built when they were first introducing the model, and was owned by Mr. Simpson himself! That makes this guitar Martin Simpson’s Martin Simpson–twice the Simpson, double the tone.
The bass is warm and well-defined, and the trebles are nothing short of ecstatic–and she eats up lowered tunings as though they were snacks. DADGAD, Drop D, CFA#D#GC–you name it, this guitar can handle it. With so many options at your hands, it’d be great to make the decision of what to play easier by being better-suited for fingerstyle or flatpicks, but the fact of the matter is this guitar sounds equally stellar with both approaches, so the sky’s the limit for how you play, and in what tuning. We’ve just reset the Mahogany neck and refretted the Ebony fretboard (and to top it off added a new saddle), so she’s ready to rumble for decades to come. We have a snugly fitting TKL hardshell case to keep this Bourgeois Martin Simpson from harm.

Who would have thought that this 1998 Bourgeois Martin Simpson signature edition would excel at lowered tunings? It seems that Mr. Simpson’s prediliction for DADGAD and other dropped tunings has permeated this particular instrument, such that its voice–punchy and articulate, with a clean, driving tone–really opens up once those strings get loosened. The best part: in lowered tunings the guitar maintains a good, clean tone; no buzzy and muddy strings! The Indian Rosewood and Sitka Spruce top go very well together to give the guitar lots of pop. The setup of this particular instrument is superb for flatpicking or fingerstyle, and thanks to that generous Fallaway cutaway you have virtually unrestricted access to the entire fretboard.
