***Moonspruce is fine European Spruce that is harvested in a very old tradition used by violin makers such as Stradivarius for more than a Century. The wood is harvested when the sap flow is at it’s lowest and it is left to start drying in the forrest. It is denser and more moisture resistant that modern harvested spruce. From Mike Greenfield: “This grand concert size guitar is extremely versatile and may be used for many different styles of music. This guitar is very quick to respond and sits comfortably in your lap. It has an incredibly focused sound. Evenly balanced with a tight responsive bass, transparent mids and clear, ringing highs. The G1 has the ability to reproduce complex chords with piano-like clarity, while articulating each individual note in fingerstyle patterns. While primarily a fingerstyle guitar, it is also superb for light strumming and acoustic jazz.” This particular G1 is sublime, crafted from old Brazilian Rosewood with a bit of dramatic sapwood on the back and sides. This may well be the very last G-4 Michael Greenfield ever makes in Brazilian Rosewood. He’s having great difficulty finding high grade Brazilian wide enough for the 17″ bout of his G-4 design. So besides being an amazing Greenfield guitar this may also be a very rare one. The Brazilian here is outstanding, very even grain and color. The Lutz top is amazing, with abundant medullary silking that we’re sure is a big part of the sultry tone of this one. We added DUAL BEVELS, a ribrest bevel to match the armrest bevel, and fit it with a cutaway and a Calton Flight case. This is a guitar you’ll want to protect.

Classical lutherie royalty: Greg Smallman. This 2005 Smallman is all dramatic Brazilian Rosewood, Cedar, and explosive tone in the way only a Smallman can. The Cedar top is exquisitely thin, paired with a sturdy rim for maximum projection and power, and the heavily domed BRW back adds additional space to the instrument’s air cavity. A thin arm rest keeps the top free from the right arm’s damping effects. A guitar this rare and valuable, you must have a quality flight case to keep it safe. This one comes swaddled in a white Karura, one of our all-time favorite flight case manufacturers.

Greg Smallman has been one of the top innovators in the Classical guitar building world for many years. Although his instruments may not seem all that different from the norm on the outside, strike one note and you will know straight away that something very different is happening beneath your fingertips. This 1995 Smallman Concert model in Brazilian Rosewood and Cedar is unlike any classical guitar we have ever played. It is exceptionally loud–even without having to drive it hard, this guitar will genuinely fill up a room with profound and complex tones. It maintains a beautiful and lush voice at full volume with no distortion or tubbiness to be found anywhere. Greg has achieved this sound by making radical changes to the inner structure of the guitar, utilizing lattice bracing and carbon fiber combined with an incredibly thin top plate. The Smallman guitar is so special in fact that Legendary concert performer John Williams has used a Smallman guitar for a large part of his performing career. This is a life-changing guitar that will make a perfect instrument for the concert perfomer.
“All the guitars at Dream Guitars are special and unique. Occasionally, a guitar lands here that is truly outstanding. The 1995 Greg Smallman is one such guitar. It has exceptional volume, power, balance and clarity. When I played this guitar, the sound seemed to congeal a few feet in front of the instrument and just hang there–for a really long time. The clarity and balance of each note within a chord is palpable, and the the notes just leap out of the instrument. The magic of this guitar is truly something to behold.” – David Stevenson
