2005 Goodall GC Cutaway AAA Brazilian/Red Cedar
James Goodall worked closely with this guitar’s original owner to build the best “perfectly voiced” fingerstyle guitar he possibly could. The attention he gave this instrument is evident in every detail, from the drop dead gorgeous Brazilian rosewood sides and back, to the beautifully fine-grained red cedar top, to the contrasting extra-curly maple binding. Although it was built for a fingerstylist, this one also offers strummers and single line players plenty of shimmer and sustain as well.

This is a Goodall Grand Concert Cutaway with all the Goodall shimmer but a bit warmer sounding as well. It very well balanced and clear, as are most Goodalls, but there’s a little something extra in this one. Al pointed it out to me after he recorded it, he feels it’s a special one. The rosewood and spruce body offers up a great fingerstyle voice and this one also strums great. It’s in mint condition with an AKG microphone added for amplification.

The first thing that hits you about this James Goodall Grand Concert is that it’s drop-dead gorgeous. The triple-A koa practically pulsates, the reds hues in the mahogany neck complement the koa perfectly, and the curly maple binding adds just the right contrast. While this one has all the crispness and sparkle that the Goodall brand suggests, there’s a pleasant warmth in the midrange as well. This is versatile instrument that will reward its owner for years to come.

This is the first Goodall Crossover we’ve had in the shop and we are duly impressed. This guitar is strong with great projection and responsiveness. It’s very alive. The neck dimensions are narrower to appeal to player who move between nylon and steel string or those who simple prefer a slimmer feel. But there is still plenty of room between the strings to play cleanly and articulate. The construction is impeccable and the Palo Escrito and Cedar body looks stunning and sophisticated. It’s equipped with a pickup and ready for the gigging musician.
