2009 Kelday OM Brazilian/Cedar
Consistency of tone and even response: this 2009 Kelday OM has both in spades. Bringing together some gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood and Cedar, William Kelday offers us powerful proof that the OM-size guitar is still an amazing instrument. Fingerstyle or flatpicks, this Kelday feels familiar and easy with a 25.4″ scale and 1 13/16″ nut for deft left hand work.
The trebles have this quick, crisp response that livens up the entire voice, and the woody warmth of the bass and middle registers can be found in a variety of tunings–only so many guitars sound really good in C tunings, and this Kelday is definitely one! We’d recommend this guitar for pretty much any guitarist, but especially for the player who likes to switch between tunings, fingers, and picks without having to carry a trunk full of instrument cases around.

Bill Kelday is all about tone and so is this fine OM. It has amazing balance and power to spare. Its voice clearly harkens back to the prewar Martin guitars but there’s something more there, an intangible beauty that is all Kelday. The dark, rich Brazilian Rosewood can be felt in the bass and the full, clear trebles. The spruce top offers up unending power. The sustain is lovely and the playability is perfect. I really like the versatility of this OM it seems to be happy playing anything you throw at it from Celtic to Blues and beyond. This is one of a quartet of guitars he made for the Healdsburg Guitar Festival.

From longtime luthier Michael Keller, we’ve got a dynamite 12-String guitar in the shop from 2012 in Indian Rosewood and Spruce. This beauty takes the cake for clarity and dynamism on the 12-string front; here there’s none of the tinny jangle that’s given them a bad rep, just meaty, powerful tone. Additionally, Michael added an arm bevel for creature comfort, and a soundport to the upper bout to keep the player dialed in to their sound, plus a sharp florentine cutaway for getting to those pesky uppermost frets. The neck-to-body weight ratio is excellent by normal standards, even better so for a 12-string. We found playing this Keller 12 was very easy, and we didn’t have to waste precious left hand energy holding up the neck.

Brand spankin’ new but already explosively loud and rich, this 2016 SJ from Michael Keller is the new kid on the block at DG, and everyone wants to be his friend. One of our Dream Series guitars, this “Rose“ was made with one of Paul’s personal sets of Brazilian Rosewood (and what a set it is, chocolate-dark and straight-grained) and an Adirondack Spruce top–a deadly combination in Keller’s SJ body. With the added soundport, all the Brazilian richness is broadcasted straight to the player’s ear, while the balanced and crisp trebles help round out the guitar’s voice, itself even and articulate.
The setup is glass-smooth and low for fingerstylists, and this Keller SJ handles D tunings like a champ, and as it continues to open up it’s going to sound even better (if you could believe it)!

2005 must have been a good year for Michael Keller, because this 2005 Jumbo with flamed Koa and Engelmann Spruce is a firecracker (or should we say mortar shell?) of a guitar! The bass is pronounced, but with a well-defined edge that keeps this Jumbo from sounding muddy, and the trebles are strong without being shrill, which allow this guitar to work well for both fingerstyle and flatpicking approaches, and performs best with a medium to aggressive attack to really set the Engelmann Spruce top singing.
With the added soundport on the upper bout, this Keller’s huge voice is also directed straight to your ear to make this a great choice for loud venues or sessions–not to mention the pride you’ll feel as you show off the well-executed Abalone inlay across the body and neck. For a player seeking a slim nut, this Jumbo offers that in combination with a low/medium C profile neck for comfortable fretting work, and the setup is glass-smooth. Michael Keller’s one of the greats when it comes to Jumbos; do yourself a favor and try this big boy on for size.

With the deadly combination of striking aesthetics and exceedingly well-balanced tone, Michael Keller gives us this gorgeous 2010 Jumbo with an offset soundhole and two soundports for an acoustic experience unlike any other. Not only do the sizable soundports provide unprecedented access to the interior workings of Keller’s bracing techniques, they also project a hearty blast of music right at the player, so there’s never going to be a time when you can’t hear yourself, no matter how loud the session at your local ale house.
Between the gorgeous, straight-grained Indian Rosewood of the back and sides, and the Engelmann Spruce, there’s more eye candy than you’ll know what to do with: precision-cut MOP across the fretboard, thin bands of Abalone and dyed wood trim across the top and headstock, and a five-piece Mahogany neck with Maple and Rosewood laminations. Well-adapted for both fingerstyle arrangements and flatpicking, you may find that your other guitars will quickly start gathering dust once this Keller Jumbo enters your collection. It has heaps of rich, colorful tone to offer, and a clean projection that can cut through the mix with ease. Handled with care by its previous owner, this Keller bears only the faintest play wear, but is itching to get grooving.

Michael Keller is one of the most experienced, and in our opinion, talented luthiers on the planet. He is great friends with James Olson, both living in the same area. This is rare gem from 1990 that has been virtually unplayed for 20 years. As if in a time capsule it’s a perfect example of Michael Keller’s early work, it’s historic really. Indian Rosewood and Sitka, this is a large body guitar with a big, warm voice. It has lovely top end and a big bottom as well. It’s versatile and can easily move from strumming to fingerpicking or live in either world. If you are a Keller fan or just a fan of great guitars, this is a rare find.

The carved upper bout edges act as additional sound hole area. This Metamorphosis model is just that, it looks like a big guitar but has the strong, focus character of a small body guitar.
