1979 Gibson Flying V2, Walnut & Maple
The iconic Gibson Flying V—here in its rare V2 form, made only 1979-1982. The V2 was engineered by Tim Shaw to add a sculpted, three dimensional effect to the classic V shape, as well as his unique boomerang humbuckers. This one from 1979 plays handsome as butter with a fretless wonder setup, and comes wrapped in it’s original case to boot.

2011 saw Gibson offer an exclusive run of Historic 1959 Reissue Les Pauls boasting hand selected materials and hardware by the Custom Shop. These LPs are powerhouses. Figured Maple top with Washed Cherry finish over Mahogany body and neck, plus a TonePros bridge and tailpiece with deep studs, ’57-recreated humbuckers, and the ’59 neck profile that’s smooth, round, and fantastically effortless in hand. These special Burstbuckers can really rip when you lean in, but can also offer a buttery, round flavor depending on attack. The two volume, two tone knob arrangement plus three-way switch will feel immediately familiar, as will the solid build weight (under 8lbs; slim for an LP). Those four knobs are all push-pulls, too (bass tone: Phase Reversal, neck tone: kill switch, bass volume: split bridge, neck volume: split neck). This beauty comes wrapped in the original Gibson case, and comes with an uninstalled pickguard and COA.

The Les Paul from 1959 is one of the most sought-after electrics of all time. And Gibson’s Collector’s Choice series is the most faithful reproduction of this legendary instrument. Here we have #4 from 2012, “Sandy,” an exacting copy of a ’59 LP that had cream of the crop traits: tightly flamed Maple top, faded “dirty lemon” sunburst, zebra-coil humbuckers, low neck pitch and butter-smooth playability. In order to recreate this LP down to the tiniest details, Gibson’s team went so far as to digitally scan the entire original for its neck and top carves, even the grain pattern of the Flame Maple top and play wear patterns.
This work of art is more than a simple reissue, it’s more than a relic’d reproduction. An all-original Gibson Les Paul goldtop from 1956. Need we say more? One of the most iconic electric guitars of all time, and this example is a breeze to play and more fun than we could hope to describe. Our repair shop has gone over it in painstaking detail to verify that everything is in tip-top and original shape—and everything lines up except the high e saddle adjustment screw. The P-90s roar, and all the hardware and electronics work like a charm.

Add to Compare1999 Gibson SG Les Paul Custom Mahogany, Inverness Green 3 ’57 Humbuckers
Here we have a lovely custom shop Les Paul SG Custom in Inverness Green with 3 ’57 Humbuckers. From Epinions.com: The current incarnation of the Les Paul SG Custom Reissue differs from the original in several important ways. One of the most notable is that the guitar upon which it is based had a slightly larger body, and the manner in which the neck of the Les Paul Custom SG Reissue is joined to the body is more sturdy. Many of the original 1961’s had to have their neck joint repaired over the years for this reason. The neck on the original also had a tendency to whip a bit with hard playing, because of the manner in which it joined the body, and this whipping tendency was also accentuated by the thinness of the neck. Of course, this added to problems in keeping the guitar in tune. These problems have been eliminated in the Les Paul Custom SG Reissue, and the neck is somewhat slightly thicker, has a stronger truss rod, the heel joint where the neck joins the body is more substantial, the neck has a longer tenon. Thus, the Les Paul Custom SG Reissue does not have a tendency to whip or bend like the original, and thus holds its tune significantly better than the original, and it is not prone to the neck joint cracks or breaks that plagued the original.

Here we have an amazing TV Yellow Les Paul Special from 1958. This is last year of the single cut Les Paul Special and features 2 of Gibson’s famous P-90 pickups. This one appears to be all original and is in great condition. The TV Yellow color came about when white guitars were found to not work well on black and white TV shows. This creamy yellow color showed better on film and thus became TV Yellow. So this is not only one of the most collectible Les Paul Guitars but also has a place in pop culture and TV history.

This is the real deal vintage Les Paul Jr. The Les Paul Junior is the little brother to the Les Paul, having a flat, uncarved mahogany body, a single P90 pickup, plus the old wraparound combined bridge/tailpiece that would continue to be used on the Junior even after it had been dropped from the Gold Top. Many players covet the Junior for it’s great feel and serious tone. This one is very rare and collectible and appears to be completely original right down to the chipboard case.

This is some guitar, the first year of the Les Paul! Designed by Ted McCarty and Les Paul, this guitar was the very first of the Les Paul line. Many consider these guitars prototypes since they were never assigned serial numbers. This one has the Gold Top, P-90 pickups and appears to be all original but for the nut. The playability is great and the tone is killer. This is a very rare, vintage Gibson Les Paul offered as part of a collection or individually.

We’ve landed a gorgeous solidbody Gauche model from Japanese builders Jersey Girl that’s set up butter smooth and ready for action. This lovely number from 2004, titled “Mask,” has a Figured Maple top over Mahogany body, with Maple pickup covers and knobs, plus a light-chocolate Rosewood fingerboard, delightfully Figured Maple neck, and gold locking Gotoh tuners to match up with a gold Wilkinson tremolo. 25 inch scale feels lovely and responsive under your fingertips with just enough give to keep bends easy.

It’s always a fantastic time when we get to play one of Steve Klein’s feats of modern lutherie, but one we don’t see com that often through our doors is a solid body electric like this 1994 beauty. Solid Spruce body with one-piece Rosewood neck, 19 frets to the body and a 25.4” scale, plus a truly fearsome JCustom Headless Research tremolo system. Steve’s design carries out ergonomics to the very end: this guitar sits perfectly in the lap, neck at a comfortable angle, and the weight distributes just as easily when strapped in and standing up. Seymour Duncan pickups, 5-way switch, volume and tone knobs with a coil tap push-pull. A lifetime of tones wrapped in one effortless package.

Straight out of far, far, far left field, we’ve got a steampunk distortion provocateur affectionately dubbed Miss Blues from electric guitar whiz kid Leo Lospennato. With a built-in knob to dial in distortion from plain jane’s “none,” all the way to “nuclear,” it’s clear that with a twitch of the dial your tone will plunge from the clean and lofty into the depths of chaotic distortion. Fun, much?
The Alder body is finished with vintage and steampunk flair, comes with a piezo bridge pickup to supplement the Dimarzio Bluesbucker (flip up the pickguard to access the battery compartment!). With a piece this unique, your tone (to say nothing of visual flair) is guaranteed to stand apart from the crowd. They’ll want to stay back, lest Miss Blues devour them in a distortion fugue!

This is the Tejas Tone Machine from Marchione crafted completely from one solid piece of old growth Mahogany. So there is no neck joint at all, this insures maximum sustain and tone, not to mention great feel. You hand simply glide up to the very highest frets floating on the smooth contour of the neck. The rosewood board and custom Marchione pickups are wonderful touches and make this a versatile tone machine. We felt we could coax all kinds of voices from this guitar from clean to scream. The neck is chunky and feels great, LP players will love the feel.

Martin made just 1375 EM-18 guitars from 1979-1982. While they did not make a big stir at the time, we find them to be a very cool guitar with great tone and a variety of settings (series & parallel) that give you the ability to get a funky single coil sort of tone as well as full-out screaming humbucker voicings. The body is laminated Maple & Walnut body have a race car sensibility and the Stauffer style headstock nods to the company’s history. This would be a fun addition to any collection and this one is in excellent condition.

We commissioned this build on behalf of one of our clients (give us a shout if you’d like a bespoke Matsuda of your own), who loved Michi’s Deconstruction aesthetics but wanted to take it in a new direction. Enter: the Double Neck Deconstruction. Two necks designed with two playing styles in mind, the bottom set up for plucking and strumming, the top for tapping. Additionally, the bottom neck features a custom cittern-style bridge, whereas the top neck is outfitted with a hinged string damper at the nut. The assembled body of the instrument is decoupled from the acoustic top to allow it to vibrate freely, and an array of pickups across the arrangement allow for a wide range of setups heading out to the amp.

Add to Compare2018 Matsuda Deconstruction Hybrid, Flame Maple/Sitka Spruce
We’re lucky to be able to follow along with Michi Matsuda during the wild rides that make up his custom guitars. We recently commissioned this hybrid of Michi’s Deconstruction guitars for one of our longtime clients, and it’s been a blast watching this piece of art come together for the past several months on our blog (see here: https://www.dreamguitars.com/michihiro-matsudas-mad-scientist-experiment/). Michi had the reins right from the start, and we’d like to include his artist’s statement here to explain just what’s going on here:
“It is going to be a one-of-a-kind acoustic/electric, something in between my archtop guitar I made in 2017 and my deconstruction guitars. It will also be a sculptural piece of art. The top is hand-carved Sitka Spruce. The body is partial sides, and partial hand-carved back. I will use figured Maple for that. The basic tonal idea is the same as my deconstruction, so there is no sound box. I will use figured, tempered Maple for neck, and Mahogany with some Rosewood for main structure of the body. I will use two humbuckers. Controls will be simple: one volume, one tone, and one pickup switch. I am also going to design a new style of bridge.
It will not be an archtop guitar, not a solid-body, not a hollow-body electric.”
The result is 100% Matsuda. With some components lightly sunburst, others exposed, from Sitka Spruce to Maple and Wenge, and with a tailpiece, bridge, and pickup design that doesn’t dampen the top plate, Michi’s latest project, which we’re calling his Deconstruction Hybrid, is in a category all of its own.
